Save Money on Apple Juice Apple juice is infinitely more delicious when you make your own from garden apples, windfalls begged from neighbours or pick-your-own bought cheaply in bulk. I had glorious fun with Vigo's apple juice machine in the first programme in the Smart Spenders TV series (Wed 16th March, BBC1, 7pm). The Taylor family of Somerset let the apples in their orchard rot, saying they were dirty, and bought their apples in Asda instead. I stopped that by ambushing them at the till, disguised as a checkout assistant (thanks to Asda for your sense of humour). Back home, we picked up windfalls and I introduced them to this simple hand-operated juice-maker. No need to peel the apples: you make the juice in seconds by turning the wheel, and you can freeze the juice for six months. Great fun for supervised children too. We used Vigo's 12-litre press and crusher - have a look on their website or catalogue at their wide selection of juicers and food dryers. These traditional presses last for many years. You could always club together with others to buy one and I can’t think of a better present.
VIGO If buying anything do please remember to let Vigo know that you came from Mr Thrifty, Smart Spenders or just Jane, so we can email you with special offers later.
