Here is some of the bread made by me and others on a one-day breadmaking course at The Magdalen Project near Chard in Somerset.

The day's course cost £38 - a real bargain, including drinks, home-made cakes and lunch and all ingredients, and I took away some lovely bread including Roman Army Bread, a very quick recipe made with honey and not kneaded, which fascinated my children.

The Magdalen Project has lots of courses including sausage-making, spinning, cheese-making and stonewalling, all extremely good value considering that many places charge over £100 for cooking and craft days.

You can also become a volunteer and work on the organic farm or in the office, being fed and entertained for nothing.
